Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Pakistan Coast Guards Headquarters, where Director General Pakistan Coast Guards Major General Jawad Riaz gave him a warm welcome.
During the visit, the Interior Minister was introduced to the senior officers of the Pakistan Coast Guards. Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the martyrs of Pakistan Coast Guards and placed floral wreath and prayed on the martyrs’ memory.
The Interior Minister chaired a high-level meeting at the Pakistan Coast Guards Headquarters. During the meeting, it was informed in the briefing that during the last five months, Pakistan Coast Guards have seized:
- Drugs
- Smuggled goods
- Other contraband worth 315 million dollars
Also, Pakistan Coast Guards revenue has increased significantly in the first seven months of the fiscal year. Mohsin Naqvi appreciated the excellent performance of Pakistan Coast Guards despite limited resources. He appreciated the dedication and efforts of DG Major General Jawad Riaz and his team. He reviewed the possibility of starting a ferry service for pilgrims to Iran and directed the authorities to present a comprehensive plan for its implementation.
The Interior Minister stressed the need to increase the operational capabilities of the Pakistan Coast Guards and vowed to increase international cooperation in this regard. The Interior Minister directed the authorities to intensify anti-trafficking and anti-narcotics operations and said that the Coast Guards have to play a key role in protecting the coastal areas of Pakistan. The Interior Minister was briefed on the Coast Guard’s operational readiness, anti-trafficking and anti-narcotics efforts, and measures to improve the agency’s performance. Senior officers of Pakistan Coast Guards were also present on this occasion.
